Success Stories

That makes so much more sense now!” and “This is actually quite cool!” is what we hear from my students most of the time. In schools, students make on average one-grade progress per year. Mr Coach’s personal best so far is 3 grades up in six months and 4 grades up in one year, with most of our students achieving grades A*-B, or 9-7 (or 5 at Foundation level). Get rid of maths anxiety and build your confidence with Mr Coach.

Bruno was a few months into his Y13 doing the Edexcel A levels in Maths. He had just received his mock exam results and it didn’t look great. He was on track to significantly miss grade B he needed to study Economics at the University of Leicester. Based on the school report, Bruno was adamant it was just Mechanics and Trigonometry he needed help with but our own assessment revealed some more gaps and misconceptions in other areas of the syllabus which had to be addressed in the right order. Thanks to Mr Coach’s very targeted approach, Bruno was able to enjoy a very secure grade B when the results came through in August with just a few marks below the threshold for grade A. I wish Bruno approached Mr Coach Tutoring & Education a couple of months earlier.

Hello Sir, I am so happy as I just received my results and I got a B in Maths. It is a very strong grade for Leicester. I was just 7 marks off an A and I know it was my paper 2, but thanks for everything.Bruno

Masha and her younger brother Alan were half way through Y11 and Y9 respectively and significantly underperforming according to their previous End of Year exams and as well as more recent assessments at school. Masha needed a minimum of grade 6 in Maths to stay in her current school post 16 and Alan ended up in the bottom set threatening his GCSE choices starting Y10. Unlike with Alan who wished to pursue Further Maths next year, the extra layer of challenge with Masha was a mix of her slight anxiety with Maths and dislike of the subject, and she insisted GCSE was definitely the end of her Maths education. Over the next few months, we engaged in an intensive catch-up program with the siblings and achieved enormous progress with both students. Alan moved to one of the top sets and is pursuing Further Maths in Y10 while Masha was just 1-2 marks off grade 8 in her GCSE Maths (if only we started a bit earlier…) and … wait for it … she decided to drop English and study A-level Maths instead!

Alan did really well in his maths exam and has moved up from set 4 to set 2 which means he will be taking further maths next year! I really appreciate all your support; his confidence has shot up! Thanks so much.Natalie – mum

Masha got a 7 for her GCSE Maths but is only 2 marks away from an 8, so school are getting it remarked. She is delighted either way as are we! Thank you so much – your input made such a difference and we really appreciate everything you have done to support and encourage her in Maths. Also, she is going to take A-level Maths in the end – fantastic!Natalie – mum

Karen is a very bright and top-attaining student, but doing a number of extra subjects at GCSE including AQA Further Maths and a GCSE and A levels in Polish Language and Literature to name just a couple is not an easy ride. Especially when one is aiming for top grades in all their subjects as she did! Mr Coach assisted Karen’s family for 1.5 years on her journey through GCSE Maths and Further Maths with regular weekly lessons, but it was equally thanks to her own ability and perseverance that in August Karen celebrated a grade 9 in Maths and a grade 8 in Further Maths (with just 5 marks below the threshold for grade 9) along with equally high grades in all other subjects. Obviously, she was welcomed into one of the best and most demanding Sixth Forms from September to continue her unmatched track record in education.

We received the results today and Karen got a 9 in GCSE Maths and an 8 in Further Maths. She would get a place in every single Sixth Form she applied to, so it is a hard choice we are facing now. We are so happy and proud of Karen and she is absolutely over the moon too.Kamila – mum

Marcus and Nathaniel were two of my university students of Economics and Finance respectively. Despite having a level 3 Maths qualification upon entry, they found university level Mathematics and Statistics a bit of a step-up and fell behind in those first-year modules. One of them even failed Mathematics and had to retake it in August but prior to this, he had to ensure, he wouldn’t trip up with Statistics in June exam session as it could have even meant his departure from the course. Fortunately, both young men realised early enough they needed extra support and got in touch with Mr Coach to catch up. We worked together for a few weeks and months and both students celebrated success in the end.

‘’It went really well and I definitely got around 80% of the marks. I wish they didn’t stop marking retake papers as soon as the student reaches the pass threshold, but I am still so happy I’ve made it and my understanding of the content has genuinely improved, so it all feels much more enjoyable now.’’ Marcus

‘’I got my results back and I passed Statistics with flying colours. And in Maths I got 85%, so no more than just a couple of questions wrong. Thank you so much!’’ Nathaniel

Lucas went to one of the most prestigious and top-ranked independent schools in West London. This is a highly academically selective environment and the educational level as well as expectations of students are extremely high. Although very smart by nature, Lucas was more of a Humanities and Languages person. He found himself struggling at times with the demands of the OCR A-level Maths syllabus and after January mocks his end of year exams looked a bit at risk, so his mum got in touch with Mr Coach and met a few months before the end of his year 12 – early enough to get Lucas back on track for an A in his Y12 exam session. We continued to work together throughout year 13 and when the results came through in August, Lucas was able to enjoy his well-deserved grade A again.

‘’I am happy to say that I got an a in Maths thanks to your help. I wanted to say a big thank you for helping me so much over the past year and a half, and I hope all your other pupils have done well too. Thank you for all your guidance, too!’’ Lucas

Andrey is a technology business senior executive, but what makes him stand out from the crowd of ‘’typical’’ IT professionals is his passion for learning languages and reading about history and philosophy. It is that inner voice, persistence and – to a degree also his Polish girlfriend (now wife) that made him pursue a ‘’mission impossible’’ – to learn the Polish language in one year. Although his Slavic background made it considerably easier for Andrey to come to grips with it, reaching advanced level in 12 months of twice-a-week lessons was quite something. And he was able to take his marriage vows in perfect Polish which left everyone awestruck.

‘’Marcin is very thorough, engaging and accommodating teacher, acting not only as an educator, but also as a guide to the Polish culture. As a polyglot, he was able to supplement my study with relatable non-English, idiomatic examples in other languages I know.’’ – Andrey

‘’Mr Coach is the best tutor ever! In just one year, he taught my now-husband the Polish language to a level where we can communicate literally about anything. Many say Polish language is one of the most difficult to learn, so this is really spectacular! Thank you so much for your exceptional service!’’ Marlena

Fabrizio’s mum contacted me one academic term into her son’s first year of maths A-Level course. He is one of many students affected by the disruption caused by Covid. As a naturally gifted mathematician, he managed to get an 8 at GCSE in the teacher-graded assessment. However, this might not necessarily have been the correct judgement of his attainment at the time and when the results of his first assessments in year 12 came through, Fabrizio’s mum knew they could not afford to wait any longer. After just under two academic terms, I took Fabrizio from grade D to A in his end-of-year 12 exams. He has since been consistently scoring A’s in all his school assessments and his predicted grade at the end of the A-Level course is also an A. We continued to work until the school broke up for the summer which gave Fabrizio a good head-start into year 13 and we resumed from the beginning of September on a regular, weekly basis.

Thank you so much for turning my son around in such a short space of time. He looks up to you and works harder now, so I know he is in good hands with you. I want to say a massive thank you again for communicating regularly and being flexible.” Elisabeth – mum

Anita was a mature student who had to retake her maths GCSE in order to be accepted for a university course as the institution was unable to recognise equivalent qualifications from her home country. On assessment, she scored grade 3 and after less than a year with Mr Coach she hit grade 7 in her GCSE despite being very ill on two out of three days of her exams.

Marcin is a reliable professional with a profound knowledge of mathematics. On a one-to-one basis, it is possible to improve greatly with him and he is good at developing work strategies. My experience is of an adult learner with poor foundations which he has managed well, surpassing my expectations.Anita

Mark was in year 9 when we first met. Although he was a very bright student in general, he was in need of regular support in maths to improve his attainment and confidence. Having worked with Mr Coach on a weekly basis, he was able to celebrate grade 9 at GCSE and successfully continued studying maths at A Level. He has now moved on to study Economics at a Russell Group university.

We worked with Mr Coach on my son’s math tuition for nearly 5 years. My son was able to build a great rapport with Marcin, he is now confident and motivated and has shown huge progress, genuine interest, and enthusiasm in the subject.

Marcin is incredibly responsible, professional, and always ready to cooperate and accommodate student’s needs. He is very good at assessing my son’s individual strengths and weaknesses and provides a well-structured learning plan. Marcin is very organised and works precisely to schedule. He maintains the right balance of responsibility between my son and himself.Georgia – mum

In a previous appointment, Mr Coach assisted an Academy Trust with International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum work in the run-up to opening a new IB school. The IB organisation was very impressed with the scope and the quality of the outcome and Mr Coach received a special mention during the school approval and authorisation process.

We are writing to express our appreciation for the hard work and passion you have shown towards our Academy new school project in the last academic year. Recent visits from Ofsted and the International Baccalaureate have highlighted the outstanding work completed by all of the staff involved. Your contribution has been particularly recognised and is very much valued by the broader Trust. Warm regards.CEO of the Trust, Head of School & Assistant Head

A community school from North-west London approached Mr Coach with the aim of delivering weekly catch-up sessions on Saturdays for their underperforming maths students. Students were at different levels of attainment and some of them were already in their last GCSE year. Mr Coach worked closely with the Headteacher on raising the attainment of targeted learners.

We would like to thank you for your hard work in helping our students and the detailed schemes of work you created to facilitate this. In our annual meetings with the Board, we discuss the budget, and the school management is asked to justify spending with evidence. The Board was very pleased and impressed both with your assessment as well as the planning that followed. We hope to work with you in the future when we secure new funds for extra-curricular activities.Headteacher

Nigella had just sat her mock exams when her father approached me for help. She achieved a 6 and was very upset about the results. On top of that she suffered from maths anxiety due to a number of gaps and misconceptions which prevented her from developing a deeper understanding of maths concepts. We initially worked together for one year and during that time I managed to completely change her perception of maths. She forgot all the maths frustrations and previous traumatic experiences with the subject and she was delighted when she received grade 9 in August. She decided to pursue maths at A Level and we worked together for another two years. She later moved on to study an economics-related course at a Russell Group university.

Hi Marcin, oh my God! I just got my results and it’s a 9. I am over the moon. The papers seemed so difficult and people were crying after the exams. I was slightly worried myself, but positive. Thank you so much for all your help. I am confident I can do maths at A Level.Nigella

Marcin, my daughter achieved grade 9 and is absolutely delighted. I have never seen her so happy and confident before. I just wanted to say a massive thank you for all your hard work and we will see you again in September.Aleks – dad

Irina was in year 11 and underperforming in maths. She desperately wanted to do maths at A Level, but with special educational needs, and grade 4/5 at the time, she was not encouraged by her school to pursue this idea. After a few months of working with me, she received the minimum required grade of 6 and was conditionally admitted onto a maths A-level course and soon found herself in the group of top attainers in her class. We worked together on a regular basis into her final year 13.

I am overjoyed with the grades and off to a Russel Group university in Nottingham. Maths papers were quite difficult, but I have achieved a B! Thank you for all your support during our sessions, it seems all the hard work has paid off. I am really proud of myself.Irina

Andre’s dad got in touch right after his son’s mocks in January. Andre had to improve his grade from 6 to at least 7 to get a place on an A-level course in his school. After 5 months he sat his GCSE and received grade 8 with flying colours. He was a little disappointed as it turned out he was just a few marks below the threshold for grade 9. If only we had started a couple of months earlier… We are continuing to work together with Andre as he has now started his maths A Level and we are now also helping his younger sister in year 11.

I am very happy with my achievement and the teachers in school could hardly believe I got an 8. I can see now what the power of Mr Coach’s individual intervention plan means and I never thought I could learn and understand maths so well in such a short space of time. The A-level course seems so easy now.Andre

Nathan fell behind in maths during Covid and feared he would not achieve grade 7 which he needed to do maths A Level. According to my assessment, he was hitting the minimum requirement already before the summer, but the previous evidence from school was only enough to award him a grade 6 in the teacher-graded assessment. When the school refused to offer Nathan a conditional place, we had no choice but to prove his actual attainment level. We prepared him for his maths retake in November and simultaneously did some GCSE/A-level transition work alongside elements of the actual A-level course content so that he did not fall behind again. He received a secure grade 7 in November and was allowed to rejoin the A-level course hitting the ground running.

I actually feel much better and more confident knowing that the grade I received having sat a proper GCSE exam is a genuine 7. A number of my schoolmates who got grades 7 or 8 in the teacher-graded assessment have already dropped out of the A-level course as they were not coping with it.Nathan

It has been a pleasure working with Mr Coach as he truly and deeply cares about all his students. It is evident that he has plenty of experience working with children and young people and all my kids like him a lot.Azlan – dad

Sofia’s mum found out about her daughter’s significant underperformance in maths only after a meeting with a member of the school’s SLT team following her daughter’s mocks a few months before GCSE exams. The school admitted that Sofia had been going undetected for too long and somehow ‘slipped through the net’, but they brushed it off and were not willing to take any further responsibility for their misjudgements. The fact that the school went under special measures soon after might have been a relief for some, but did not change Sofia’s situation at all. Her dream grade was a 6 in order to get a place at a sixth form of her first choice, but she would have been equally happy with a grade 5 which was the requirement for a couple of other colleges she was interested in. That still seemed like a massive challenge since she scored 3 when assessed by me. I was a bit worried, but in the end, delighted to find out Sofia was able to celebrate her success in August.

I just wanted to let you know that Sofia got a 5 and she has been offered a place at her second-choice sixth form. I am really glad and happy for her. Thank you so much! She wouldn’t have got it without your help.Agnes – mum

I met Kedar when he was in the last year of his GCSE Foundation maths course a few months before the final exams. On my initial assessment, his grade was somewhere between 3 and 4. His predicted grade from school was a 4 and he was not happy about it. After three months of working together, he consistently scored 5 on past papers and I encouraged him to switch to the Higher GCSE option, but the school was unable to accommodate him in any of their higher tier classes due to full capacity. It is sad that the school did not identify Kedar’s potential early enough and, as a Foundation candidate, he was capped at grade 5 as a result. Right before the exams he regularly scored above 70 out of 80 marks in all his papers, which is indicative of grade 6, but he did not want to take the risk of walking into an ‘unfamiliar territory’ of Higher papers.

Dear Mr Coach, Kedar got a maximum grade of 5 in maths! Thank you very much for helping him and God bless you.Ignes – mum

I met Kayden 6-7 months before his GCSE exams. He was a Foundation student who literally hated maths. He had been attending after-school catch-up sessions at his school for quite a while to little avail. His average grade from three assessments in November was 3 and he desperately needed at least a grade 4 for a place in college. We designed and followed a detailed, individual intervention plan in regular weekly sessions, and when reassessed in March, Kayden was already hitting grade 5 in all papers. At the beginning of May, all his scores were above 65 marks which means that if we had started a few months earlier, he might have had a chance to be entered for the Higher GCSE option. Most importantly though, his attitude towards the subject has since shifted and, taking his own example, he understood that everyone can achieve in maths.

I just wanted to say a massive thank you for all the work you did with Kayden. He received a 5 in his math GCSE and he was predicted a 3. We are over the moon. Thank you so much for all your help and all of the extra effort you put in with Kayden. I know you really invested your time with him.Tina – mum

Helena and Norbert are siblings with one year age difference between them. They both fell victim to the situation caused by the pandemic and did not respond well to online learning. As a result, when their January mock results came through, they found themselves 1-2 grades below what they needed to continue to study maths at A Level. This was confirmed by my own assessment and, although it is always recommended to start much earlier, we needed to deliver a crash course in the run-up to their GCSE exams. It all worked out well and both Helena and Norbert achieved a grade 7.

Just to let you know – it’s a 7 like last year and they now have a confirmed place to do Maths A Level. Thank you so much for helping my kids. I really appreciate all your efforts.” David – dad

John was an adult student whose girlfriend was Polish. They lived together in London and were planning to marry in the near future. They frequently travelled together to Poland for holidays and to meet her parents who did not speak English at all. He was frustrated that he was unable to communicate with them or understand what the family members were saying among them. Nor could he participate fully in the wider social life while in Poland. He did want to learn the language, but pretended he was not keen to do it, because he had a sneaky, though very romantic agenda on his mind. He wanted everyone to think he couldn’t speak Polish, only to impress his future wife and the family with his Polish language skills at the wedding! We worked together for approximately one year in secret until John reached his goals.

I really appreciated the varied content of our lessons from textbook and workbook exercises, through listening to recordings, reading and translating simple text to conversational sessions outdoors when I had to describe the changing environment around me. I always felt I was under the wings of a qualified teacher as well as a professional linguist, not only a native Polish speaker.John
