Sometimes students know exactly where they have fallen behind or which topics they struggle and need help with. They may find some ad hoc support sufficient, at least for the time being. However, most of the time it is not that simple as they may not understand the underlying cause of their underperformance, which in turn may lead to a lack of confidence. This is where custom tutoring plans and consultancy come into play and become truly beneficial.
How do you develop a custom tutoring programme?
After discussing the customer’s aims and needs, and finding a convenient day and time slot(s), the client will receive a recommended action plan and, in case of more complex individual requirements or preferences, a personalised quote.
Usually, even before the first meeting, we will undertake an initial assessment at the appropriate level which needs to be thoroughly completed by the student and later discussed in depth with the tutor. The whole assessment process will typically take the first few lessons.
This is an important part of the process, intended not only to check the student’s current attainment level and knowledge of specific topics but also to discover any underlying issues such as learning difficulties, misconceptions, special needs, behaviour problems as well as to find out the child’s responses to teaching, their way of thinking and learning, motivations, personal interests and to build a relationship.
Through these interactions, the tutor develops a holistic picture of the student which enables us to create a personalised, structured intervention and learning plan.
How do you deliver the custom learning programme?
Personalised tutoring programmes can be delivered either through in-person one-to-one private tuition or online. Students should expect small amounts of regular and frequent homework to be completed as retrieval practice and at some point to be retested to check and record their progress.
Parents or guardians should expect regular verbal, email, or SMS communication about their children’s progress.
